As an Orlando Proposal Photographer, I get a front-row seat to some of the most meaningful moments in people’s lives — and this one was so special. I spent my Friday night hiding behind a cypress tree at Kraft Azalea Garden, and it was worth every second to see Katie’s face when Austin dropped to one knee.
The light was soft. The park was calm. She had absolutely no idea what was about to happen.
And honestly, I live for moments like this.
Austin told Katie they were going to a fancy dinner in Winter Park. However, he insisted they take a walk through the park first. Katie later told me she was very confused about why this park visit was suddenly so important.
Still, she trusted him. So she went along with it.
Meanwhile, I was tucked behind a cypress tree with a clear view of the lake. The light was soft. The breeze was calm. Everything felt still.
Then he turned to her. And he got down on one knee.
She was completely shocked. Hands to her face. Instant tears. Pure joy. It was one of those reactions you cannot script. They were so sweet together.
Katie and Austin have been together for seven years. They met as freshmen in high school in Minnesota and grew up together from there. Later, they both went to college in North Carolina. Then in August, they moved to Florida when Austin began medical school at University of Central Florida.
Katie is now a kindergarten teacher here locally, which fits her sweet personality so well. She is warm and kind. Together, they are steady and supportive in the sweetest way.
They’ve built their relationship through big moves, long years of school, and major life transitions. So this proposal felt like such a meaningful milestone. It wasn’t rushed. It was intentional.
Kraft Azalea Garden is one of my favorite proposal spots for a reason. The cypress trees frame everything beautifully. The columns are such a unqiue piece to photograph. And the open lawn gives you space without feeling crowded.
It feels quiet. It feels romantic. It photographs so well.
Because I’ve photographed here many times, I knew exactly where to position myself. I stayed completely hidden. Then, when Austin stepped into place, I was ready.
Being a proposal photographer means I’m your professional secret-keeper and your guide from planning to the “yes.” First, we plan everything. We talk through location, timing, and exactly where you’ll stand. Then I help you think through little details you might not even consider. After that, I hide and wait.
When the moment happens, you stay present. I capture everything.
Then we roll straight into engagement-style portraits while you’re still glowing. And Katie and Austin were absolutely glowing.
They laughed. They hugged. They kept looking at the ring and then at each other like they couldn’t believe it was real. I had the best time capturing their joy all the way through the session.
I’m still obsessed with the light from that night. But more than that, I’m obsessed with how sweet they are together.
High school sweethearts. Seven years in. A move across the country. Medical school. Kindergarten classroom days. And now, fiancé and fiancée.
It was such an honor to capture it.
If you’re thinking about proposing, let’s make it intentional and stress-free.
I’ll help you choose the perfect spot. I’ll guide you through the plan. And I’ll capture every second — from the nerves to the yes.
